Engaged – Chapter 6

Since our last blog we would like our readers to know Mr Laakhi Singh have been extremely busy doing photo shoots for various magazines and he gave his first live interview to BBC Asian Network on the 11th April 2017.  Laakhi Singh, the author of Take A Walk In My Big Indian Heels spoke to BBC Asian Network about his relationship with Amrit and his mother-in-law before marriage and after marriage.

As you all read in previous blog, Laakhi Singh’s kindly hearted mother-in-law took her son Amrit’s marriage proposal to Laakhi.  She asked Laakhi to speak to his parents about this proposal so they can get married very soon.

For those who have read the book, you must have known how adorably Amrit proposed Laakhi.

Let’s find out how Laakhi felt when the love of his life Amrit proposed Laakhi.

It was lovely weekend when Amrit had arranged surprised for Laakhi Singh in Edinburgh’s most luxurious apartment where Amrit had a chef prepare meal with beautiful scented candles and rose petals to show his unconditional love to Laakhi.  Amrit proposed Laakhi Singh in most perfect way, Not even for a second Laakhi  expected that wonderful evening will become most meaningful moments of their lives.

After those magical and sweet moments Laakhi finally said “YES” to Amrit.  Laakhi told Amrit how happy he was with his proposal, Laakhi was feeling top of the world, he felt secure in Amrit’s arms and what more would he ask for?

Amrit Propose Laakhi Om Digital.jpg
Amrit said: “Laakhi, my soul, tells me with every breath I take, that you are the person that completes me”, “I know, with you by my side, I can make my dreams become a reality, will you marry me?” I looked at him, as his grin, and kind face looked at me, I screamed: “yes, I would love to marry you”.

After Amrit’s proposal, Laakhi decided to call Amrit’s mum and let her know he has accepted Amrit’s proposal.  Amrit’s mum was very proud and happy with Laakhi, she said would like to introduce Laakhi to Amrit’s Brothers, Sister-in-laws but there was no mention of Father-in-law (Laakhi didn’t understand why).

Days were coming near for Laakhi to to meet the rest of the family. Laakhi, Amrit and Mother-in-law were very occupied with engagement shopping, guest lists and rest of the preparations.  Laakhi’s Mother-in-law suggested him to wear EXTREMELY RAVISHING saree for his engagement.  Laakhi was very puzzled but he knew Amrit loved him whether Laakhi was dressed as a man or a woman as Laakhi would do anything to keep Amrit happy.

We are sure reading Laakhi and Amrit’s wedding proposal, they must have bought you memories back with butterflies.

CHAPTER – 5  Mother-In-law’s Proposal

On our last blog we discussed how Laakhi met his mother-in-law 1st time, how she approved Laakhi and Amrit’s wedding.  Laakhi took very special place in his mother-in-law’s heart and from there she decided to give Amrit’s hand to laakhi.

After the 1st meeting with Laakhi, his mother-in-law very quickly decided to meet Laaki again.  Being over the moon, Laakhi could not wait to have 2nd meeting with her but lots of questions were running in Laakhi’s head such as “Why does she wants to meet me again?”  Amrit finally bought his mum to meet Laakhi where she was very open to Laakhi about how she feels for Laakhi and Amrit, she came with wedding proposal gifts (shagun) and asked Laakhi to marry Amrit according to Sikh culture.

“Laakhi if you accept this proposal it does mean you would be a daughter in law in my house and not Amrit’s boyfriend or partner. I was a little puzzled to what she said at first, but when I looked into the baskets, I noticed they had ladies’ Indian garments and clothes in them”

Wedding Proposal

After getting wedding proposal from Amrit’s mum, Laakhi asked her to give her some more time to think about everything.  Laakhi’s mother-in-law was very kind women and very thoughtful of her to ask Laakhi to speak to his parents about this proposal.  Words spoken from Amrit’s mum seemed very meaningful and true, they melt Laakhi’s heart and after feeling loved and respected from his mother-in-law, Laakhi was overwhelmed.

“I would lose Amrit and then probably never move on in life. As it was I was getting older, and everyone in my family was moving ahead with life, Marriage, kids ETC and I wanted to go ahead with my life, I wanted all those things other members of my family had”.

Laakhi was worried about his parents and Sikh society.  Laakhi knew accepting his mother-in-law’s proposal would give lots of shame and pain to his own family. Marrying Amrit Laakhi would have to be the daughter in law of the house. Finally Laakhi accepted the proposal and decided to get engaged.

We had some fantastic response from everyone in our last blog, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.  Share us your proposal stories and how did you cope with your family?

Chapter 4 – Meet The Saas (Mother-In-Law)

Mr Singh’s Diary

This is where the real story of Laakhi’s life beings.  The very first time when Laakhi meets Amrit’s First love (His mum).

When it comes to meeting your Mother in law, sometimes it is terrifying experience. we all know how challenging it can be, we want to give the last drop to make a good impression and get her stamp of approval to be in our man’s life.  In the sikh society the mother in law plays very supreme role, without the mother in law’s approval you can not  even step in the house.

IMG-20170317-WA0014

It was nice and sunny weekend when Laakhi went to meet Amrit’s mum.  Laakhi was very nervous as it was his first meeting.  Amrit assured Laakhi, his mum would love Laakhi once she meets him. When Laakhi met his mother-in-law he knew she was the woman who loved the family’s Izzat (Honour), standards and for her it would be all about herself.  Just like every mother-in-law, she had high expectations from Laakhi’s.

“Amrit’s mum was a very tall thin woman, with very high cheekbones she had a bland face expression. She was dressed in a traditional stylish Indian Salwar Kameez. Her hair was tied in a bun at the back of her head. She spoke with a scorched husky voice; I could smell her intense perfume”.

After breaking the ice, Laakhi and his mother in law spoke deeply about their Marriage, Sikh Society and How Laakhi’s family would respond to Laakhi and Amrit’s marriage. Laakhi felt privileged meeting Amrit’s mum.  She was very respectable women who loved her son.  Amrit’s mum was happy and very supportive toward Laakhi and Amrit’s marriage, she was very loving lady who told Laakhi, she would do anything to keep her son happy.

After meeting Amrit’s mum, Laakhi could see himself as part of Amrit’s family.  Laakhi’s mother-in-law was very sweet lady, she really cared about Laakhi and she was the best mother-in-law he could ever ask for.  Laakhi felt fortunate when Amrit told him, she approved him and she’s joyfully decided to give Amrit’s hand over to Laakhi.

Laakhi often questioned himself “ How Amrit’s mum can be happy with him being gay and accepting me as his partner. I knew my mum would never allow it?”

We all know mother-in-law can be very very demanding at times and she love to show you the  authority because you are marrying her son.

Everyone goes through different experiences with their mother-in-law.  How was your first meeting with your mother-in-law/ in law?  Was she over the moon with you?  Did you argue with her first time?  Was she unreal with you?  How did you overcome the situation?

Do share us your experience and tell your relationship with your in-laws?

If you do not wish to discuss it on the blog, you can email us or inbox any of the social media pages, where Laakhi will respond.

Chapter 3 – Tall, Dark and Handsome

17202955_1275851609161817_2244946064664279698_n

This chapter introduces you to the notorious Mr Amrit Singh. The man who touched Laakhi’s undying soul and ignited love into his life.

Laakhi and Amrit met at each other’s cousin’s weddings. The pair of them bumped into each other, while performing a wedding ritual, their eyes locked on to each other and before Laakhi knew it he began to choke with astonishment for his love for this Tall, Dark and Handsome man.

“I started feeling uneasy like I couldn’t breathe. I started choking; I couldn’t catch my breath; it was ironic that the best man had taken my breath away”.

Again the pair met again at the actual wedding ceremony in the Gurdwara (Sikh temple) they became entwined listening, singing along to each wedding Laav/laavan (Sikh Vows) and watching the wedding take place, unknown to both of them, that they would be destined many years later to marry.

Throughout this chapter Amrit is shown in a way of romance and to sweep Laakhi of his feet, while maintaining a strong friendship with Laakhi’s big brother (Vijay) and also the rest of Laakhi’s family. (I think he went to great length in heart to win Laakhi’s family over for a fruitful relationship with Laakhi).

As time went on in this chapter Laakhi and Amrit shared an intermit moment where a secret forbidden relationship of love blossomed. The chapter shows Amrit revealing himself as GAY person to his family members and decided with honour to introduce Laakhi to his own mother.

Chapter 1 – Beginning or the End

Take A Walk In My Big Indian Heels

This is Laakhi’s first step towards the beginning of his new life or should we say the end.. The first chapter starts with the end of the diary, which is lot more interesting and gives you a more intuitive reading.

Laakhi’s Diary is out now and it’s showing tremendous results.  Amazon would like to thank everyone for your support.  Let us tell you, just like Laakhi, your soul will be crying when you read Mr Singh’s Diary.

img-20170215-wa0003

You will definitely need plenty of time while your reading Mr Singh’s diary, the best time would be in the evening when it’s nice and quiet while you have a slow romantic music playing in the background.

The reason why Laakhi has written this diary, to make people aware of what actually happened and not to keep it forever silent and in suffering just like he had been.  He wants to help and make everyone understand, it’s not about society or culture, it’s about two souls and their freedom.

The 1st chapter of Laakhi’s  Diary shows the importance of honor, family, his culture, respects for his elders and love he has for his virtues and his parents.

For Laakhi, being around his family their was happy and sad moments. Laakhi used to love cooking and cleaning the house while his mum is working hard to feed the family members.

Laakhi was growing up with being GAY and it seems like it was a tremendous amount weight on his life.  Laakhi’s Mum and Dad knew he was a Gay but to stay in the Sikh society they decided to ignore the truth. Laakhi was growing up with this in silence.

When relatives  would come round to my house to see my parents or me, they would call me by my nickname they had for me which was “Mrs Mop” this was as I always had a mop or brush in my hand. I expect I used cleaning as an escape mechanism from facing my problems that I was GAY.

As the time passed Laakhi decided to join KATHAK classes which gave him lots of strength to begin his life.  Laakhi would go to Temple (Mandir) to learn KATHAK Classes and he was blessed by the Indian Godess (Durga Mataji). Laakhi often visited Sikh Temple (Gurdwara) and he felt peace listening to Hymns.  Every time Laakhi was feeling down he would pray, pray and find solace in his prayers.

This blog is just to give you the idea what this chapter is about. Leave your thoughts about this chapter and do not forget to share this to your Friends and Family as we want to bring message to everyone, we all have a right to fall in love and live happily.

Take A Walk In My Big Indian Heels

book-cover-take-a-walk-in-my-big-indian-heelsMr Singh’s Diary

When Laakhi fell in love with Amrit (the love of his life), the person he loved who is the same sex as himself, Laakhi Singh never knew after marrying the man of his dreams, what he would have to endure, from a man he became a woman, a bride with a secret, for the sake of the society and Sikh culture. Miserable before and after marriage. His heart-wrenching love story shows the determination and lengths Laakhi Singh went to.

To hide his pain and make a marriage successful that was built on a lie. Disowned by his parents, abused and humiliated by his mother-in-law.  Laakhi’s story shows how much a Indian wife, Indian daughter-in-law’s have to deal with, how the world could be so cruel that honour mattered more than a person’s life. How vows become nothing at all, how love didn’t conquer all and how it all ended in travesty.
